Can someone please do an American remake?

I normally don't care for American remakes of foreign films, but I just finished watching this and was overall pretty disappointed. I get that they were going for the cheesy over-the-top angle, but I didn't care for it; the effects were WAY too obviously fake, the fake ads and that police "cheerleader" segments were annoying, and a lot of stuff came off as silly in a way that annoyed rather than humored me. I spent the whole movie thinking how awesome the premise was and how much I would have liked a more serious Sci-fi/action take on it. Maybe someone like Josh Whedon can remake it and even keep a humorous aspect to it.

What the japanese make cheesy and fake, we Americans can make cheesier and even more fake! Trust me.

reply

True, but in this case I think standard "turn it into an action/horror movie" style of american remakes would serve this movie well

Oh no please no American remake -that would be the laaaaaaaaaaast thing to do!

I thank you kindly.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

Wow. Somebody's completely missing the point of this movie. So you basically want them to strip away most of what makes this movie awesome, then slap a bunch of typical Hollywood crap on it with an American cast?

Yeah, I don't think this movie's for you. You're thinking of something else entirely.

reply

No, I didn't miss it, I just didn't care for it. Thus, yes, I want them to strip away what YOU think makes this movie awesome and make it something else entirely. Correct.

why not just watch something else entirely? I would enjoy gone with the wind, if there were cars, and it took place in Texas...

reply

Because I like the idea of a zombie movie meets a super-hero movie, with this unexplained epidemic causing people to become monsters that grow weapons to replace lost limbs... Just not quite so cheezily done and with some better fx to show off some really interesting weapons.

Americans wouldnt re-make this. They were/are too afraid to re-make battle royale due to the content. so i doubt they'd do this one.

as for "make it something else entirely" - so what you're saying is you DONT want them to REMAKE this movie. but instead make a movie called Grindhouse/Planet Terror.

In your opinion...

Yeah, I know, just a typo

American Remake?????? NO NEVER EVER NO NOT A CHANCE IN HELL NO!

American remakes of Japanese movies, especially of this type, become watered down crap. You'll lose half the violence and most of the blood and there'd have to be some sort of "message" in order to justify the violence (of which there'd be less of).

reply

Wow, this is the first time I ever heard of american remakes cutting the violence, I thought they always turned everything into a shoot 'em up movie... :)

Sad sad sad Americans, thinking you can do everything better just by throwing more money and less talent at it. Why not just not watch foreign movies if you're not open to new ideas and less the 'flashy' special effects?

reply

Wow, everyone sure is getting their panties in a bunch... I don't think American can do everything better, and usually I like foreign films just fine, but in this ONE case, I feel like the "american treatment" would make it a better movie

Just take everyone's response as you being wrong. America would rape this film horribly. And suggesting Joss (not Josh) Wheedon should remake it? REALLY?

reply

First, it's an opinion, so there is no right or wrong.

And secondly, no one has ever bothered to discuss how the concept would stand up if portrayed in a more serious light, or any discussion about how it could be remade, but instead just throw around sterotypes of "the hollywood treatment." If I had said a Hong Kong remake, would that make everyone feel better?

And finally, that typo was pointed out (and acknowledged) already, thank you. Yes really, but only, as I said, if one were to try to keep some of the humorous tone; he has done well with adding a comedic element to several sci-fi/fantasy series, while still keeping them fairly serious.

American remake ?

Yeah... It would star Owen Wilson and Miley Cirus, would be directed by Michael Bay and the title would be "L.A. supercop".

Still wanna see it ?

Just want to second the guy who said that the cheerleader and the ads were the best part. Well, maybe not the best but definitely awesome. I want that little blond asian chick on 24/7 on a screen in my living room. She's great.

I don't know about a remake (American or otherwise) because I feel that what you didn't like about this movie is what made it so charming. However, I immediately thought that an anime of this would be pretty awesome.

P. S. I think the best part of the movie was gator-snatch. (I nicknamed all the engineers) First she was tittyteeth, then she became gator-snatch. I want a figurine of her so bad!

reply

This kind of movie would never be made in America. It's too obscure a nitch market- weird horror sci-fi campy gore fest? Best thing America has to offer is Evil Dead 1-3. That's about it. And the last Evil Dead movie bombed in theaters.

The more remakes we get from the dire dollar hounds of the states the more new inventive Asian movies we get ...
Until the yanks exhaust their pitiful comic books we are stuck with remakes.
Remakes ..dont make me laugh !

How the hell can you be dissapointed?
Did you see previous films from the studio before you watched this one?
If you did, then you would´ve know what you were in for, animé/videogame styled action...and isn´t it bad enought that an american adaption of "old boy" is rumoured starring Will Smith? I just wished that americans would stop trying to make re-makes of foreign movies, do what you do, leave anything else because you just make it cringeworthy

reply

unfortunately no, I saw it on Netflix and liked the sound of the summary, but expected something more resident evil, and was disappointed.
And for the record, I like 'old boy' and dont think that it should be remade, neither should 'death at a funeral'

If you could have the same movie with a slightly better dialogue and better special effects, I would like to see it. I also like the idea of an anime.

Brain guy with machine gun eyes annoyed me slighly because of the bad mkeup job, it needed to sit a bit lower.

But the overall movie was fascinating.
