The book is quite DIFFERENT from the movie

The book, believe it or not, is even MORE brutal and messed up than the movie. And while Miss G. is certainly villainous in the book, she doesn't end up being the worst villain. The end of the book is especially shocking because it shifts the whole moral ground even more than the movie does.

I absolutely LOVE the novel by Sheila Kohler. It is currently my number 2 favorite book of all time! Being set in South Africa's Transvaal region really adds another dynamic to the narrative. And reading about how the girls began having "normal" sexual fantasies once Miss G left; but more importantly, they became perfect students, and would go on to become productive adults in an attempt to bury the guilt of their past.
