What's with the pillows on the beds?

I'm American and don't see the reasoning behind having all the bed pillows laying at an angle on the beds. Is there a special reason for this?

It's kind of funny, because I am American and I have seen that style in America too. It's just a look that some places, often B&Bs, use.

I think extra pillows look nice if they are done right. I'm not a huge fan of the diamond angle. That look must trigger my OCD or something haha. I like right angles to reality. :)

Yes, it IS totally done in the US, as many decorating books and magazines like to show the whole tons of useless, uncomfortable pillows bit. I'm no more a fan of that than I am of too many candles.

The idea of those pillows in a B & B, previously used by former guests, and unable to be sanitized properly, simply fills me with dread.

I've seen the pillow thing on pretty much any design or makeover show from Australia to the UK to the USA. I didn't think anyone actually did that in their own home though until a friend showed me around her new apartment and she had them too which made me laugh. I asked her what she did with them at night and she has to pile them all on a chair.......it seems a bit of a pointless exercise to me (a bit like ironing underwear!)
