The awful children's hotel in Blackpool...

I was watching this show on BBC America (it has become one of my favorite shows) and I find it interesting to see how many peoploe just make a snap decision to say "I think I'll buy a hotel and run it". In all the episodes I've seen I think the most frustrating one -- where I wanted to kick my TV set -- was the Sparkles Hotel in Blackpool where the owner REFUSED to lower her rates even though she could never fill the hotel. She was surrounded by hotels with 20 pound rooms and she was advertising hers at 200 to 400 pounds and refused to listen to Ruth. I just saw this episode this morning an HAD to go online to see what happened. Apparently the owner remained stubborn and the hotel went bust. She got what she deserved. She was completely delusional.

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

That hotel was abysmal. I think there IS a market for people who come to Blackpool with younger children, but most of them if they want to spend that kind of cash aren't going to stay in a pit like Sparkles Hotel. If you're splashing down £200+ for a room, you'd go to a nice place, in fact you probably wouldn't even come to Blackpool at all if you could afford that much for a night. Although De Vere's is pretty posh, it does NOT reflect your average hotel.

What was so scary about that hotel was the dust, dirt, and mold. The place was just nasty and the owner was quite frightenly delusional.

No surprise that it closed soon after the episode. I would have loved for Ruth to make a revisit on the day it closed for her to say "I told you so!!!"
