Worst Fresh Prince Rip Off Ever

When I saw the commerical for this show, I was like "Oh, that looks pretty terrible." Then I noticed it was terrible, and it ripped off Fresh prince a little. Wise-cracking scoundrel moves in with rich relatives and all. Then I watched some of the show on youtube because I lead a sad *beep* existance, and noticed that every character is a carbon copy. There's Flava, which is Will, there's his brother, who is basically Uncle phil, there's the spoiled rich daughter who's like Hilary except extremely unfunny, and there some nerd character who's a bad combination of Urkel and Carlton. The fake laugh track makes it even more painful. Just so this whole thing has a point, I'm wondering, is there anyone who actually enjoys this show?

For one thing now that you pointed it out, it does kind of remind you of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I have a question I caught the episode in the middle, but who is the rest of the cast suppose to be. I get the fact that Kelly Prine is playing Flavor Flav rich brother, but who are the other people.

I agree that this show is an extremely poor rip off of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Let's face it, while Flavor Flav has been riding a 5 year wave created by VH-1 reality shows (The Surreal Life, Strange Love and The Flavor of Loves) and Kelly Perine has been a solid 2nd banana on such shows as Between Brothers and One on One (not to mention his myriad of guest appearances on shows), neither of them has the star-power to carry a show this bad. It's like the show's writers and directors sat the cast down and said "...okay, Kelly, you know how Uncle Phil acted, I want you to do the same thing...except overact. And Flav, you know how urban and streetwise The Fresh Prince was, I want you to be "urbaner" and "streeter". Marie, I need you to be Hillary, only dumber. Jesse, I want you to be so white that even Carlton would be jealous. If you guys can really oversell these qualities we might have a hit on our hands..." I guess the writers, directors and producers weren't planning on people with any degree of intelligence enjoying (or even watching) this show. I normally enjoy watching Kelly Perine, but, in this show it is just painful to watch him try to bring life to such horrible writing and direction. Some people are just better suited to be Pips (the legendary background singers for the more famous Gladys Knight). Kelly is an exceptional Pip. He doesn't work well as the lead here , or, as straight man to Flav's clown. And speaking of Flavor Flav, he deosn't have nearly enough charm or presence to play the lovable rogue character (a la Will Smith). Flav's acting is atrociuos and wooden. He seems more interested in developing a catchphrase than developing his character, Calvester ("Wowwwwww!"). I'm all for seeing more African-Americans on TV (because Lord knows there are far too few of them these days), and I can't knock the hustle of any actor trying to get his grind on, but, until we see more quality shows featuring minorities, we have to accept the drivel we're given. My word of advice to all involved with this show would be learn from 1995 Thomas Carter drama of the same name (Under One Roof), a show which also featured African-American leads, was only on for 6 weeks, but, was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy. This show had class. The new Under One Roof is without any degree of class at all.

I have to agree with you also. You hit it right on the nose when you said what the producers was probably thinking when creating the show. that's all this show is a Fresh Prince of Bel Air rip off. I hate this show with a passion and each time I watch it I don't ever laugh at it.

Totally agree. I saw part of one episode it was so obvious they were ripping off the Fresh Prince of Belair. I just saw a commercial for tonight's episode and even the spoiled rich hot girl reminds me of Hilar (Karyn Parsons) from Fresh Prince. This girl's good looks won't save this show.
