How was Berti added to the script?

As far as I remember, he didn´t show up in the book.
Does anybody know something contributing about that?

he also didn't appear in silentium (the book), but appeared in the film because his role helped the story to work as a movie.

this time he'll only play a minor role as brenners co-worker in a leasing-company. he'll give brenner the task to collect a leasing rate from a customer. but the customer disappears and brenner discovers some suspicious things about the whole thing...

here is an intierview (german language):

in an interview on austrian television hader and murnberger told that the script was written by them plus wolf haas and birgit minichmayr all together - each one wrote one version than the others criticised it and one after the other wrote another version until the movie was done. sounds strange but as it worked out great.

I haven't read the book, but I gather there's quite a few changes that have been made. Would I be correct in that deduction?
