So they never reveal his past and mom?

Is that left a cliffhanger?

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

Near the end of the last episode, Toby's mom shows up at his apartment, alive and well. There is no on-screen explanation of their past, why they were running, or the other questions left from season 1. Presumably, she and Toby discussed all that stuff, but we, the audience, never see it.

Interesting. I've seen all the episodes at least four times and never saw that in the last episode.

I streamed it from ctv.ca a day or two after it first aired.
I haven't seen it (or any of this series) since then, since I live in the US & don't get the channel that airs it here.

Edited to add:
Found it on youtube: https://youtu.be/Gn9Pui3diYw?t=41

I wonder if it's one of those deleted scenes I've heard people talking about.

I was watching CTV as season 5 was airing and saw the last scene with his mom. U.S. channels delete it, maybe.

I am pretty sure he says that his mom died when he was 5 and never knew his dad. That he grew up in the system and his ability started when he was around 13 and he had to self teach the skill and not let anyone know he had it.

Its odd, the original airing had all of it in

but when i was watching reruns on ION tv they seem to have removed all traces of that story.

Even in the final episode tia does her search for his mom on dev's computer, but the reunion is cut out.
