Episodes 12-13 will be skipped again!

I looked ahead on my DVR and ION plans to skip episodes 12-13 AGAIN! So irritating. There is no logical reason to purposely skip two important episodes so why do they do it?

Are those eps a tad extreme for the time of day the series is being shown ?

In my area The Listener plays during the middle of the night. They are also skipping EPs 1-2 of season 2.

well that kills my theory then, darn it. šŸ˜ž

I've just binge-watched season 2. Season 1--episodes 12-13 with the introduction of Frank (and Maya) seemed out of place in terms of the 'big picture'. Yes, you do miss out on why the season 1 detective is no longer there. And there was no flashback to explain her absence. Toby's mentor/angel is also gone.

But, it works better without the Frank (and Maya) storyline. That whole mystery was anchoring Toby. Remove the mystery and Toby has a greater range to explore. Same thing with having O(liv)ia as being more than a friend.

I don't know what channel or provider is showing "The Listener" - but in my case, I'm watching via satellite.

So far no shows have been skipped, including 12 and 13, which I assume are the Gordon Pinsent episodes.

I watch on MULTIVISION, a Cuban channel which is carried on HISPASAT at 30W on transponder 11884 V 27500. I suspect there is something a little flakey with them carrying the show, as it is shown with the CTV bug in the corner (as well as the mv bug in the opposite corner).

The only downside is that there are hard coded spanish subtitles - but hey, when you live in South America waddaya expect?

As of tonight, the show is coming on at about 10:24 Eastern Time every weeknight, and tonight's episode was season 2, episode 3 - the one about the shooter at the convention center.

This satellite has a huge footprint that covers both north and south america. You can check SATBEAMS.com for more information on coverage.

I love this show. Especially since it's in Toronto and doesn't hide it. My old stomping grounds... ah well.

ION does not even list these two episodes on their Listener web page. Very strange. Add that to missing scenes and censoring references to anything Canadian makes one think that there is a conspiracy going on.

The first season of The Listenerā€”and seasons 1ā€“4 of Flashpointā€”had extra funding from agreements with NBC and CBS to air the series in the US.

Because of those agreements, the first seasons downplayed the Canadian location to be a generic North American city, and since the US has more commercials than Canada they would trim those scenes that still had oblique references to Toronto. I assume that NBC and CBS were afraid that average Americans might not watch "foreign" series. Regardless, US ratings for both series were low. NBC stopped airing The Listener after episodeĀ 9, and CBS delayed Flashpoint airings, and stopped airing it completely after seasonĀ 4. Living in northern Vermont, I could still watch the shows on CFCF-12 out of Montreal.

Without NBC involved, there was less money to make future episodes of The Listener, and during the season hiatus all of the writers were replaced, so the show had a new direction when it came back as a Canadian only show for SeasonĀ 2.

As a result, the first episodes of SeasonĀ 2 had to wrap up the end of SeasonĀ 1, to get all the end-of-season twists out of the way of the direction the new creative staff wanted to take.

I assume that in retrospect, it was concluded that for syndication the story was cleaner if they simply skipped all the twists that came at the end of seasonĀ 1.

PS I also assume that ion uses the US edits of the first season, since they were already cut for longer commercials, and in cutting seasonsĀ 2+ they also went after Toronto references for the same reasons NBC did.
