Dreadful photography

If you were French and if you were Jewish, and if you understood the point of the film, then, you might have found redeeming value. I'm none of the above, so I have to judge it on the basis of film quality. If you like endless scenes of pointless walls, rooms, and halls, this movie's for you. Sorry, but it wasn't for me.

Then go watch Shrek 12. Camera gesticulations aside, I enjoyed the movie, especially the ending....

was this movie really that bad? the rating ia only 5.6. i was considering to watch it, but with that rating....

no, it's not that bad. it's a bit slow but worth seeing. the other thread about "unhappy ending" helped me understand better what was going on (tho i did more or less figure it out). good acting, imo.

I don't mind it being slow. I just found very little insight into the protagonist's feelings. He reacts emotionally to everything and does a lot of heavy breathing, but has nothing clear to SAY.

Jeanne Moreau's character (Rivka) was clearer, but essentially a cliché. We don't really get any specifics about her. Or anybody else. At least the sister has it clear how her father's ungrateful action saved her life.

The dark indoor shots and blind-alley wall shots, etc are a rather obvious allusion to everybody's blind alley condition. Not a brilliant film.
