There's one in the pipeline, with Russell Crowe strongly interested in playing Hicks. It's meant to be more about his routines than his private life. Kevin Booth, friend and biographer of Hicks, is in on it. So that should guarantee a decent script.

Also, anyone who hasn't seen Booth's film "American Drug War", watch it now. NOW.

Sorry, I've recently given up hope of finding anything new on Bill, and so haven't been checking lately.

Any news of a release date?

Here, here, and here. I wish the other two would not let other know they are attending. BTW, I know there is no justice in the universe, Bill is still dead and the copycat Denis has his own TV show.

Nothing new or substantial here yet... unless the rumor of Ron Howard directing is true??

I saw this film at the london film festival. I have been a big bill hicks fan for years and was very happy when i found out that the 23rd october screening was the world premiere.

I loved the use of the photo animation, i had my doubts when i heard about this technique but it did work really well. This film would be loved by any bill hicks fans and gives you an interesting insight into his drink and drug addiction which came close to ruining his career in the late 80's early 90's. It is a shame that he got clean only to lose his battle with cancer a few years later before he had the chance enjoy his success.

There was a Q&A session with the Directors and also his brother steve hicks. And his sister and mother were also in the audience. The whole Q&A session and audience reaction was being filmed so it looks like this will be featured in the special features when this is released on dvd.

I saw this at the Sheffield Doc Fest in Nov 2009, and it will certainly please Bill Hicks fans. It's visually brilliant, all in photo-animation, and it paints Bill in a wonderful light as a passionate and humane individual desperate to change the world around him for the better. Fans who already know about his life-history may not learn much new from the film, it's a pretty standard biography narrative, but it may be a nice reminder about Bill's passion and philosophy of life, and definately worth seeing even just for a photo-animation of Bill's life alone.

I think any Bill Hicks fan would love this film, but I actually think people who don't really know Bill or his comedy will like it moreso, and I think that's a good thing, as there's no need to preach to the converted is there? And the more Bill Hicks fans there are in the world, the better world it will be, right?
