Bill Hicks vs Larry The Cable Guy

Who is funnier?

reply

Never heard Larry the Cable Guy. Having recently endured, through morbid curiosity, the "I'm sorry, folks" 'performance', it's hard to imagine a less funny human being.

Larry the Cable Guy? Seriously? You've got to be joking, right? Salter claims to not like Bill, but is clearly OBSESSED with him. He's seen every bit of material Bill has done, and comments on his board here nonstop for several years, lol. It's really quite amusing. I don't like Larry, so I don't watch his material or comment on his boards, weird huh? OBSESSED! Ha!

Given my entire posting history (most deleted, as much of it existed either on the Politics, Sports or Soapbox boards which are routinely deleted) would incorporate about 0.01% Hicks-related content, "Obsessed" would be putting it a tad high.

TOTALLY OBSESSED, lol. And you KNOW it! That's why you're still here after all these years.

reply

Erm, okay. An honest appraisal of my posting history will provide all the evidence one needs to conclude that Hicks is simply one of many interests I have on this board - and a minor one.

Uhh, don't remember saying that you ONLY talked about Bill Hicks.... just that someone who spends YEARS on a message board talking about someone they "don't like" CLEARLY has ocd. You are obsessed with him, that's okay though so am I, but at least I like him. I couldn't imagine being OBSESSED with someone I DIDN'T like. That would SUCK! I feel bad for you.

reply

There's a guy on the politics board who uses caps all the time to make their 'points'. We all consider him slightly crazy. My advice would be to desist from doing it.

Though it's your call.

BTW, if you continue to respond to me, I'll have to assume you're obsessed with me.

Haha, nice. So, if I reply to you five times, than I AM obsessed, right? But you posting on Bill Hicks' (whom you "hate", lol) NONSTOP for YEARS and YEARS, you're NOT obsessed? Cool to know how things work over there, haha.

reply

wow, so you ended up screaming at yourself, eh?

SALTER-

After having watched the documentary, I wasn't overly impressed with Bill Hicks. To be honest, I hadn't heard of him before, and I grew up idolizing standup comedians around that time. To put it plainly, I thought the movie was just an attempt by some folks who loved him to prop up a legacy.

Then, based on your reply, I looked up the "I'm Sorry Folks" performance out of 'morbid curiosity' as you so eloquently put it. I have to say I couldn't have had a more different or surprising reaction.

His performance that night was incredible. I've not seen anything like it before. He really was clearly trying to communicate more to the crowd than they were willing to hear. In fact, if you listen closely, he's telling them the whole time what he is doing...very self-revealing. He stood, on that night at least, as a naked form of humanity: revealing truth about himself and his experience of life to an uncaring and unloving world. I know those are high words, but it is there, or that is what I saw at least.

I asked myself while watching the audience members, "Would I have gotten it? Or would I, like they, been so self-indulgent and self-deluded as to be offended because I wasn't getting my money's worth.

The kicker is, if you listen, he really did keep trying to get back to his jokes, but it was lost on them. Some really funny stuff went right over their heads...maybe it was all too far gone. No matter, now what we have is a beautiful time capsule of an encounter than could have passed as just another night in a comedy club...and THAT would have been a shame!

reply

Larry is okay but I just don't get the popularity of redneck comedy. Bill is far superior imo.
