Majority of the movie focuses on the 3 ppl in the bunker, here you are trying to figure out what's going to happen to them, parallel to George clooney and Quentin Tarantino kidnapping the family in FDTD, and last 30 mins of the movie BAM, there are aliens (vampires).
If you've never seen or heard of cloverfield you wouldn't even know where this movie is going.

and then.. wow, they were right..
there was really no other good way to explain the woman coming to the door...
I still don't know what Cloverfield is, so the ending was really unexpected. I watched it because the synopsis implied it was a kidnapping/hostage movie.
shareGuilty. I thought it was coincidence but did think of the alien movie and dismissed it, totally. Duh. But because of that I think I liked it more than most people.
