Turn on your lights

I love most scary movies but one thing always bugs me. Take this movie where you have a couple tormented by strange knocks and bumps at night. They hear a loud bang late at night. They walk down the stairs, through the living room and kitchen all in the dark. One carrying a large video camera. Real people would turn on the lights. Of course this isn't real but it's portrayed as real life.
