Horror movies are the most subjective film genre there is, but in my own personal opinion this is one of the best horror films ever made, im not easily scared, but Paranormal Activity really did scare me, the setting, the tone, the acting, even the 'found footage' gimmick, it all worked as far as im concerned,

I just wish they left it as a stand-alone movie, or at the very most a two parter with PA2, everything after PA2, ruined the whole experience of PA1 for me, (actually tell a lie, as soon as the witches appeared at the end of the otherwise brilliant PA3, thats when i realised that the franchise was going down-hill and fast), I try to pretend that the installments after PA2 never happened.

As a stand-alone movie though, i think Paranormal Activity is a superb horror flick, that doesnt always get the credit that it deserves

I really enjoyed it personally. But yeah its multiple sequels didn't really do it any favors.

Honestly, I still re-watch Paranormal Activity 1-3 fairly often. I think those first three films hold up exceptionally well, and I do think the original is probably one of the more effective horror films of the past ten years.

Unfortunately, for me, from the fourth film on everything else released in the series was pretty much mediocre at best, and the alleged "final" film was pretty awful outside of a fun, schlocky climax. I imagine I'll still watch them when I do the occasional marathon-viewing of the series... but I won't be paying as much attention.
