So let me get this straight...???

That Harry Warden guy killed those people who were at the party at the mime (and the hospital) because of what happened to him in the mime in the past?

While attacking Tom, those two police guys shot Harry Warden and killed him? After getting shot, wasn't he still running off?

So then what exactly was Tom's reason for killing people?

There were mimes in this movie? Where?!

reply

Haha very funny...

I meant mines, obviously.

Now, the answer to the question, please?

I think it was because he was angry at all the people he felt betrayed him, or harmed him in some way.

I actually think they were implying a "supernatural" twist (isn't that ironic, given Jensen Ackles stars in Supernatural?) because Axel says something like "is that you Harry? You're in there aren't you?"

I think when Tom get Harry's blood on his face in the very beginning, it was supposed to be some kind of "transfer" of craziness or something.

I think the movie would have been a lot better if Axel was the killer because they made it way too obvious that it was Tom. Plus, I think Tom had little to no motivation for what he did. They just tried to explain it by saying he was crazy or something.

It was a fun movie though.

If you watch Supernatural...it's kind of like a possession.

If you don't, it's like Amnityville Horror the new version...there's a transfer due to blood spray on the face.

I like the Primal Fear idea best though since it could actually happen. Maybe Tom inherits Harry's personality and therefore has split personalities.

I didn't mean like a supernatural possession. I meant more as in something took him over. Like the other personality.

Not sure about Amnityville though...probably secretly a nutjob and a switch finally flicked. I guess you could say that Tom being stuck with Harry caused his split to happen.

There was no possession or any other supernatural element to this movie. Why do people keep saying that? The movie states that Tom was in a mental institution. He was crazy, not possessed. Harry Warden was dead. Tom had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Dissociative identity disorder. The only way he could cope with his guilt was for his personality to split.

When Axel asks 'Harry' if he has been living in Tom's head, he isn't being literal. He just means that it isn't the 'Tom' personality they are talking to.

The ending is more like Fight Club, Secret Window or Hide & Seek. In Primal Fear he wasn't really crazy, he was just faking it.

I liked that it wasn`t supernatural...it seemed like they were going to go that way and it didn`t which was awesome. I took PSYCH 101 in university so I agree that he had both.

I thought he was crazy in Primal Fear...it`s been awhile since I`ve seen it so I could easily be wrong.

I honestly looked up the DSMIV (diagnostic test for mentally ill people) for Tyler Durden in Fight Club. He apparently also has Dissociative Identity disorder. I read the book as well, pretty sure he was kinda OCD as well.

I forget what Jim Carrey`s character has in the Number 23. I`m thinking he eventually went all paranoid schizophrenic but maybe a bit Dissociative Identity Disorder that he wrote the book.

I have a lot of fun picking apart film characters :D I also like horror movies when it has a decent back story and all too it.

I liked Secret Window but haven`t seen Hide & Seek is it any good?

I watch Supernatural and other shows like it differently than most. I watch them kind of like their representing something else. They play around with the idea of mental illness quite a bit since demons=id, angels=superego and humans=ego. To me anyway, since I tend to go all Freudian on it. They also work with dreams as well (I'm on season 4, but in season 3 they were dreamwalking). They even end up in a mental hospital at one point.

I actually used to watch Buffy the same way :D

When Axel says, "Is that you, Harry? You're in there aren't you?" he's just being a dickhead, like he is the whole way through the movie.

He just basically went nuts after the incident where Harry murdered everyone. It's common for people to go off the deep end after trumatic events happen to them. The ENTIRE thing started because Tom messed everything up by forgetting to bleed the mines. He's the reason Harry went crazy & went on his murder spree. Maybe after realizing that & almost being murdered because of his screw up, it was too much for him to handle & he went crazy.

Also one of the horror movie rules (in "Scream") anyway is to shoot the killer in the heads. They're superhumans! Always! XD

I know that they showed Tom 'changing' from the murderer to Tom; however, I don't understand how he could be in two places at once. When Tom is trapped in that metal cage, aren't there more people there? Don't they see the killer and Tom? Even if it was just Tom, how did he change his clothes so fast? Where did he put his clothes?

I liked the atmosphere of the movie, but I think they tried to make it too complicated.

To the person above me, did you finish watching the movie? They explained the cage thing at Tom's reveal as the killer.

they did?

I say there were MIMES...the killer was obviously Marcel Marceau! :)

I just figured Tom killed the people he felt had wronged him or simply interfered in some way, like someone already said.
Ultimately I think he only meant to kill 4 people: Irene, Axel, Sarah and Megan. Irene and Megan, because it would have gotten Axel's attention seeing as he dated one and committed adultery with the other. Everyone else kinda just got in the way and had to be disposed of (except that miner who he killed and then pretended to be locked in the cage....I have no explanation for that, except to maybe make people believe Harry Warden was back)

Tom felt betrayed because his Axel, Irene and Sarah all ditched him when Harry was chasing him and then Sarah claimed that Axel was there for her during the attack and HE wasn't (I never really got her logic on that one; it was like she was blaming Tom for being trapped with Harry and for Axel refusing to go back)

Plus, he was just flippin' crazy

reply

The guy he kills in the mine is also the guy in the bar who ends up trying to punch Tom but ends up hitting the mirror instead.

Tom essentially just kills whomever got in his way or wronged him.

I can't believe Axel and Sarah and Irene just left him at the beginning. That was pretty cold.

And that is how I saved them and became KING Dumbass!!!
