Saw a clip from this - can't wait for it.

Saw a clip of this today on Something for the Weekend - it looks brilliant. If I'm not mistaken this is part of a series of shows which are similar to the Fantabulosa Kenneth Williams dramatisation from a couple of years ago?

I believe David Walliams is playing Frankie Howerd in another upcoming one?

Yes, that's right. They look really good and interesting. They are from the same writer as the Kenneth Williams one, so that shows good signs. There will also be Ken Stott as Tony Hancock, and Trevor Eve as Hughie Green.

There is now some information on the BBC website too:

I thought it was excellent. I can't get enough of this kind of thing - provided it is done as well as this. My only complaint is it wasn't long enough!

Jason Isaacs in particular was eerily like HHC.

course you will get the detractors who complain that they don't like seeing their favourite comic actors portrayed in such a unflattering light

So true! After seeing the programme yesterday I went 'Steptoe surfing' on the web and found an excellent fan-based website at http://www.steptoe-and-son.com/. It was only an hour or so after 'The Curse of...' had been shown and already the Message Board on this site was full of comments exactly as you describe!! :-))

I am a Steptoe fan - very much so - and have been all my life. But that doesn't mean I only want to see sanitised accounts of how things were, and it is a well-established fact that messrs Corbett and Brambell were not bosom buddies, particularly by the end of the series. This doesn't detract at all from my enjoyment of the show - indeed it actually makes me admire their acting abilities all the more, as it must have been difficult to create such a fantastic chemistry under those strained circumstances.

It had that slightly claustrophobic feeling that a lot of BBC4 dramas have, due, I think, to trying - and generally succeeding - to create a period look on a limited budget. Burn Gorman's facial hair was embarrassingly fake-looking. And, it was a bit depressing. [I wasn't surprised to discover that it was written by the same person who wrote that dreary thing about Fanny Craddock.] But, it was certainly interesting and Jason Isaacs is never less than very watchable.

I just got done taming a wild honeymoon stallion for you guys.

Quite simply superb ! Loved every minute of it and was quite spooked by Davis and Issacs as Brambell and Corbett. 10 out of 10 !!!

P.S

You are of course right about Gorman's facial hair !
