I think it needed to be at least 2 hours long.
All seemed a bit crammed in to me.

Agreed - they understandably concentrated on the early years then rushed through the "Sideburns" era somewhat. I would like to have seen the Australian tour depicted too, so an extra half-hour would have been most welcome.
An excellent start to what promises to be an intriguing series.
