Logic of the timer

Maybe these questions have already been asked and I know it's an impossible concept in the first place but...

If its supposed to tell you when you meet your soulmate then why can't it tell you who your soulmate is so you can just go ahead and meet them?

You can only be matched with someone who has a timer so what if there's some kind of glitch or something and you time out with someone but then someone else gets a timer and it turns out they're your real soulmate?

Also, this device has to be able to see the future somehow? Wtf?

Idk, I guess you're not supposed to think about these things at all and it's just some convenient plot device.

I can't get into the "how it works" part of your question, because that's where you need to suspend your disbelief. However, you also asked why a person couldn't just meet their soulmate now. Firstly, I think the manner of the technology is such that they honestly do not know the "who." But secondly, and the main thing in my opinion, is that a person may not be your soulmate until they have had certain experiences in their life to mold them into the person they become and that takes time, sometimes many years.

Just one humble viewer's opinion.

Your last comment about the person needing to go through experiences is true, not just your opinion, as Rick, the father, says something in the likes of, "I guess I have more growing/experiences to go through", so this was the writers intent.

And you said a person may not be your soulmate until THEY have had certain experiences.... and/or it is YOU that must have those experiences. Mikey was an experience that was needed.
