Who else could have played Cheri?

Rubert Friend's acting was pretty good and I know Cheri was supposed to be delicate looking. But I think someone more masculine looking would have been better.

What do you think and who do you think could have played Cheri?

Don't laugh - but I wonder if Orlando Bloom would have been a better choice??

reply

She really goes out of their way in the book to insist that Chéri is incredibly feminine.

Orlando Bloom might have been interesting, but I don't think he can play mean enough.

reply

As I was watching the movie, James McAvoy came to mind...but then I am a little biased where he's concerned.

reply

James would have been great, as well as Gaspard Ulliel.

reply

No one.

Unlike Orlando, Rupert can actually act -- not just say words and pose.

McAvoy is a good actor, but not soft enough.

Rupert carried off the part very well, considering that the way the character of Cheri is described in the books, he was very feminine -- almost ambi-sexual.

reply

Ruppert was perfect.
But Gaspard Ulliel,Jude Law (if he was younger) or Gael Garcia Bernal could have been intersting choices as well.

reply

Robert Pattinson.

You old devil! :-)

Jonathan Rhys Meyers definitely and would've put a**es in the seats at the theaters as well. James McAvoy.

Rupert Friend wasn't that bad though, he did a pretty good job at behaving like a cocky fool.

reply

Lol, Orlando Bloom would not have improved the movie whatsoever.

This is not a signature.

reply

I thought rupert looked like some sort of scarlett pimpernel with aids. He was so gaunt looking in the face.

James McAvoy

When I read your question, my first instincts said Orlando Bloom...but I think that is because he and Rupert Friend share many similar physical characteristics more than anything else. Ultimately, Friend seemed to be a perfecting casting choice to me. He was handsome, but immature. He was likable, but selfish. Friend translated all of this on screen well, and I appreciated his thoroughly respectable performance.

I really liked Rupert Friend, and I thought he was good-looking. I don't understand the other posts on this board that say he's ugly...that seems odd.

reply

Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

doesn't look feminine enough.
