OK, I'm lost….
Why wouldn't IMDbers know anything about Lovecraft? Are you saying they don't read? That there aren't any movies with Lovecraft as a focus or based on any of his work? Because Dagon comes immediately to my mind and there was a film with Sam Neill playing a famous author in some small town (the name of the film which I clearly can't remember) and I believe that Argento's Susperia was also a reference to H.P. in some way as well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not an enormous fan of Lovecraft and although I've tried, I've had a hard time reading his books. But it's obviously a name I'm familiar with and I would assume the same is true of other people on the board. So is the implication that they're not readers? Because I know there are at least 3 movies that have been made based on his work so even if they haven't read about him any genuine horror fan would know about the films.
And for what it may be worth, I remember when the Tolkien books were written but didn't read them until I got a bit older and better able to appreciate them. But then, I also read the Dune trilogy by F. Herbert before anyone ever dreamed it would be made into a film. One I still believe doesn't do any justice at all to the books although the TV mini series made a much better go of it in terms of staying true to the page.
Anyway, I guess it's just hard for me to buy into the idea that just because someone is a member of the site they don't read. But maybe that wasn't what you meant.
