I get what happened, but am not sure how I should feel (spoilers)

The way that Granny spoke of the "shelter" was that she didn't see it as a totally bad thing, she seemed to imply that the empty body gave lost souls (religiously speaking) a safe place to exist. But it still seems like a miserable existence for all those souls, and overall I didn't get the impression that what Christian was doing was the right thing, or maybe it was just his methods. Was he supposed to wait until they were near death naturally to "collect"? Is the shelter guarding them from hell or does Granny just hate non-religious folk that much?

Anyway, now Sammy's body's new purpose (It isn't Sammy anymore even if she's tucked up in there somewhere) is to also go around sucking out souls. I'm thinking that Cara should move to a convent with her "daughter" or to a super religious area. Maybe she could save lives if she avoids contact with anyone that has any doubts about the christian religion.

Or I guess she could just jam her kid's head down on a sharp stick.

Interesting movie, but conflicting/confusing messages at times I felt. I'm not sure if the creature that Granny created was ordained by God or just her way of being spiteful to anyone who doesn't follow her religious views.

I lean towards the spiteful argument, as I feel that if God still loved the non-religious, he wouldn't damn them to hell in the first place, assuming that's what the shelter is supposed to be for. It would also be a highly inefficent system, as the shelter can only function in a small geographical area at one time, especially one existing in a child's body.

Wow... Usually, I just try to think up some smart@ss answer, but what you said was actually quite intelligently philosophical (and kind of smart@ss funny too - "...jam her kid's head down on a sharp stick.")

Just to undress, uh..., (cough), I mean address one thing you mention about where Granny was coming from. At first I wasn't really sure what they were doing; I thought that maybe they were some kind of Pagan religion; but, later toward the end, she does specifically mention about not losing faith in God, so there you go...

Anyway, sharp post m8!

I think the pagan thing would have made it less complex/confusing (pick the word you prefer) but I'm assuming the filmmakers were going for the complex angle.

Anyway, sharp post m8

Thanks! And I'm glad the "sharp stick" comment amused you. It seemed to work well enough with the villain, so I figured it's a solid plan!

Yeah, when Granny said that at the end about losing faith in God, that came as quite a surprise; I had REALLY assumed with all the rituals and symbols and 'Magic-working' and such that what they were doing in those back woods had NOTHING to do with God. But, like you say, perhaps the film makers were intentionally going for a bit more of a complex (surprise / double-twisty) approach.

Cheers!

Good thinking about moving to a religious place with her. But you're right. It's confusing what the vessels intentions were.

Question: if Moore's soul was blocked from his body, why did Adam/Wesley/David look exactly like him? Was it supposed to be that Rev. Moore was wandering the earth collecting souls of the faithless? And in 100 years he only found 6 souls? And how was the reverends soul in the body if Granny blocked it?

Is this just a plot oversight? Or did the director just not care and want to have a creepy reveal when we see Adam/David/Wesley in the old timey film?

I struggled with those same questions. One possible explanation I came up with is that Moore never got his soul back and his body operated on the Granny's instructions alone. Hence, why the movie is called 6 Souls (Adam, David, Wesley, Charles, Dad, and Sammy). Granted, the movie does not make that explicit, it's just a theory. I liked the movie a lot, but I would've liked it more if it answered all my questions.
