Slightly homoerotic/misogynist ic/xenophobic

Normally I don't give a *beep* about this sort of this, but this movie pissed me off, just slightly:

Misogyny: Travolta shooting the chick at the table without warning or provocation. WTF. Not cool. Rhys Meyers shoots his fiance? In the face? WTF?

Xenophobia: Paki terrorists, asian street gangs, asian coke dealers. Shoot them all immediately without warning whether they are armed/threatening or not.

Homoeroticism: The fact that there's a bonding scene between Travolta and Rhys Meyers right after he shoots his *beep* fiance in the face.

I mean it comes across as if Wax is the hero saving the confused and lost James from his world of heterosexuality and female companionship and just shooting anyone who gets in his way/doesn't agree with him/is a woman, and then bonding over the whole experience.

The OP is just another feminist pansy. Probably his girlfreind told him to post here.
I for one, was GLAD when Travolta shot that terrorist biatch.

Agreed OP! Its a crap show. Cheesy lines and scenes, over the top violence, politically incorrect and a stupid plot. Just read the other threads.

Personally, I almost cried at the scene when he shot his fiancée. After spending most of his life with her, he finds out that she's a terrorist. WOW! Nothing for the audience to be happy about. Just to be sad about. If you were happy, then you were a misogynist.

Would you have been happier if she had blown up a whole building and killed a few hundred?

Nobody is saying they loved seeing a woman shot, but this is not a gender issue. It's about a cold blooded terrorist. Let's not forget she was shooting to kill Reese when she was uncovered.

As for the OP's nutty observations, I'm glad they showed the terrorists were Paki. What, you want WWII Nazis for the millionth time?

Just my guess, but in this and "Taken" the terrorists are shown as who they usually are, Middle Eastern, Paki and otherwise. France is having a lot of trouble with them these days and I think Besson has opened his eyes to the problem and is one of the few with courage to show the real face of terrorism. Yes, I know he didn't write this, but it was based on his idea.

I think he will be sad for a while after he did what he had to do. No one says it is easy to shoot someone whom you love. I suspect she getting ready to kill him will make it a lot easier to put the whole thing behind him. The one thing we seem to never get is a conversation between the two parties is there reason why and were the opposite ones just using them or was there any real love at all.

reply

You're absolutely right, that's why I loved this movie.

OK, seriously: What if it was the other way around? Let's take the Movie NIKITA for example. So this is a radical feminist movie then because she kills men without warning? No, she's doing her job. So is Travolta.

Xenophobia: Well, its just a fact, isn't it? In our country its the official statistics that 99% of the Nigerians living here are drug dealers. If you want terrorists, middle east is just the place to recruit them from. I don't know how the drug dealer structure in Paris is, but I guess, its just true.

Homophobia: That is your problem, isn't it? ;)

I thought it was a very strong ending: No one would have expected that ...

Ok, so instead of shooting his fiance (and I use that term loosely) he should have let her go ahead and trip the bomb strapped to her stomach (which she was reaching for) and kill everyone in there, including himself. Umm, yeah, that's what YOU would have done, right? Riiiight.

Also, I am a woman and when he shot the biatch at the table, I was like YEAHHH, WOO-Hooooo!!!! There is no room in this world for terrorists.

Homoeroticism?? Seriously? You need to unplug the Blue-Ray player and get out more.

Terrorists from Pakistan? HOW UNREALISTIC!

I've noticed quite a few poeple bringing up Wax shooting the chick 'without provocation' or 'randomly' and the like. Did nobody actually pay attention to why he shot her? It's not like they kept it a big secret, and when you're a highly trained wetworks sorta agent, I'd imagine the person being in the same room as you and being a confirmed terrorist is perfectly good provocation...

Then I suggest you choose a comedy that is void of these issues that disturb you. You've got the bad guys and the good guys. As Americans we want to accept all and don't want to upset any.
So I wonder what you would've done in a similar situation ... if it was your girlfriend that you now know is a terrorist?

reply

Worst post of 2010......not one sensible point. Congratulations, you fail.
