Why did it feel like I just watched two movies in one?

The first half of the movie is completely disjointed from the second half. What an incoherent mess.

Yeah, just watched on Netflix.

One movie seems to be the sort of thing you'd see in old Charles Bronson movies... or maybe Straw Dogs. Quite, law-abiding man forced to take action against criminal thug who threatens his family.

In the second half, the first movie and all its unanswered questions are dropped altogether. Suddenly the family man goes all Taxi Driver, walking into a den of low-lifes and laying them out. The previously threatening thug turns out to be a conflicted father who decides to turn on his son. And a completely new character -- the combat buddy -- is introduced who helps him in his mission.

The only saving grace was the charisma of the leading actors, but they still couldn't overcome the script's deficiencies.

Actually, it felt like three different movies - first part was 'Cape Fear', second part was the murder mystery, third part was the vigilante justice bullsheet.

I found the film interesting until Richard decided to return back to the oldies. I could not rationalize this action based on the behavior he exhibited until then, and consequently started 'tuning out'. Seeing Richard go for the 'hunt' all decked up, wearing a tan leather waistcoat, did not make much sense either.

i just watched this awful film. to say i was profoundly disappointed would be an understatement. michael c. hall should be ashamed of himself for his involvement in such a contrived, preposterous clunker. how was it so highly rated by critics? it made zero sense after the first half hour or so and became steadily worse right through to its ridiculous conclusion. sad.

I'd hate to see your reaction to From Dusk Till Dawn, which is one of my favorite films.

There's no need for artworks to stay the same through and through. You can do interesting things with contrasts, too.

Yep I agree with OP...second half is way out there in the retarded goldie land...what an incoherent mess of a movie...

Seemed to change tone once Don Johnson showed up...liked it though although I thought like you did....bizarre that Shepard goes from psycho to righteous guy that kills his own son.

This thread is my home. I feel like I'm in a parallel universe where everyone besides us thinks this is a great movie. The only thing good about it (aside from acting, which is the bare minimum) was the score!
