and what a great movie!! so refreashing to see something like this but not made in hollywood. but I had one problem though, the ending. why?? so she's going to die on titanic when she just reunited with her sister?? I dont get it..
I won't say EVERYTHING Besson has EVER done is flawless, but if there is anyone you can consistently depend on to be at least good and entertaining if his name is on it -- writing, producing, AND/OR directing -- it's Besson.
The Transporter The Fifth Element La Femme Nikita The Professional
Taken Wasabi Taxi Taxi II (haven't seen 3 or 4) Banlieue 13 B13: Ultimatum
All are pretty clearly good, entertaining movies.
His best sort of movie is anything based in comic-books, since he does a great job of translating the storyboard nature of comics to actual films.
I'd love to see him do some American comics, he'd probably do one of the best comic-based movies ever.
I haven't seen Adele, but I fully expect it to be good.
I agree, the ending was a real downer and not right coming after the rather moving scenes with her sister, it also seemed to trivialise the Titanic tragedy and the rotten CGI didn't help plus did the ship set sail from France, I don't know. I thought it was from Belfast, or is that supposed to be Belfast.
Overall I loved the film, but some of the humour required a more humourous director, including the coda scene during the end credits with the big game hunter.
Titanic left from Southampton on its maiden voyage and stopped off in both Cherbourg (France)and Queenstown (Ireland) before setting off across the Atlantic.
If you look at the credits you can see some filming was done in Cherbourg.
Adele could have boarded in Cherbourg and got off Titanic in Queenstown so it isn't necessarily a "downer". Glad to here there are plans for a sequel for this enjoyable and charming film.
Ah, okay, fair enough I didn't know about Cherbourg.
But also, how come the villain is smirking as she gets on board the ship? He's not to know it's gonna come a cropper is he? Unless the next film has some radio operated iceberg popping up...
The story about Adele and Titanic is a reference to the comic book (don't remember which volume though), where there's a conspiracy with the intention of killing Adele. She is offered a ticket to Titanic - by the conspiracy - but can't make it (for a reason I don't remember). The conspiracy against her don't know she was not on board, so they go ahead and sinks the ship, thinking she died on it. A nice way to unite real history and comic fiction.
I would love to see sequels, but considering this film probably failed at the box offices, who would put money into it again?
i am not surprised that it failed at box office. while film was enjoyable most of the time it felt short developing main character. Adele stayed invulnerable and one dimensional throughout whole movie so in the end it felt somewhat incomplete
she just wasnt very likable character, manipulated her way out from every situation, there was no one moment in the film when she didnt express arrogance so in the end it was hard to root for her or care whether she succeeds or not
Ah, an ending of cruel irony eh? But as somebody else said, she's a survivor. The question is whether this can survive to become a trilogy. I hope so, I really enjoyed this. Silly but a lot of fun.
I found it boring as hell. Only lame attempts at witty dialogues, which mostly failed, the character of Adele lacking...character, and nothing happened in the movie for me, absolutely nothing. Not even worth downloading...
Funny how taste can differ. I laughed, cried, had heartstops and smiles and wonders. Hitchcock would have loved the scene where she strips for the mummy - totally Psycho/Vertigo necrophilia. I almost vomitted during the hairpin tennis scene. True gore.
"You couldn't be much further from the truth" - several
It's very hard when one has enjoyed a film immensely to comprehend how others find it bad. I loved it - watched it twice - and enjoyed everything: visuals, soundtrack, characters, quality of the acting, humour, pace of the story, costumes, sets etc. This is one of those films that I could watch time over when I need a pick-me-up.
Why problem make? When you no problem have, you don't want to make ...
Close to the end of the "Mummies" comic book, she does die. Her body is preserved for some time by a scientist who is hoping to make her alive again, but eventually he is killed too and her body is destroyed. The last line is "There is no hope."
She does get revived magically a few years later in another book though.
