Hero of our times. 20 cigarettes

One of the most urgent problems in Russian cinema in about last 15 years is still search of the hero of our time. In 90-s we had a hero. It was was Daniel Bagrov in Balabanov's movie "Brat" ("Brother") and siquel "Brat-2", which were extremely popular.

But era of 90-s has passed, life realities have changed. Street firings and gangster dismantlings of scope of 90-s remained in the past. New hero wasn't found.

Until now.

In "20 cigarettes", released in the autumn of 2007, we can clearly see a character (Andrey Smarovsky) who can easily be named by the hero of our time. He is the thirty-yrs old successful manager of advertising agency and young father. He wants his life to fit his plans and rules, but it's impossible...

The film is remarkably aligned with Toni Parsons's books («The Man and The Boy», «The Man and The Wife») and Helen Filding's books («The Diary of Bridzhet Johns») which show pictures of life of generetion of thirty-years old people with their thoughts, difficulties, values. Whether it is heroes of our time? Ambitious Andrey Smarovsky, whether it reminds you someone from your acquaintances, or maybe yourself?
