Please Help Me w/ Commentator Name!

Who's the guy that was always a guest commentator with Bob Costas on the NBC coverage of the Beijing Olympics this summer? He's a middle-aged skinny man who's always smiling. And he was sitting with Debbie Phelps during one of Michael's races. And if I'm remembering correctly, he used to be a football player?
