Sounds cool. I was really hopeing that Paul Newman would make this his swan song. I know that wouldn't happen since he retired, but he always did want to do one more film with Redford. Aside from that Deniro is a great choice.

No, not De Niro, he's better as a straight man, nor Dustin Hoffman. Has to be someone who is not in the greatest shape. Somebody with a bit of comedic flare. Like Gene Hackman, but can't really see him delivering some of the lines in the book. Someone like Michael Caine.

It's an interesting bit that mjchillen picks up on about him and deniro at the fest. He looks the part and has done buddy pics before. It will be interesting to see who it will be, it's probably crucial to this film working that they get the right rapport for the two main characters I don't know if deniro brings the right tone but maybe. It's important, even if bryson leaves katz behind on the trail in pace, their relationship is the HEART of the story.
shareI read an article that was dated as far back as 2005 that this movie was going to be made, although it said that Redford would direct as as well. There was also speculation that Julia Roberts would have a cameo. Redford also talked about having Paul Newman play Katz as Newman and Redrord had not shared the screen in over 20 years and Newman having a desire to do one more film role and then retire. Although I am pleased that this film is being made and that Bryson himself handled the script because he's adept enough as a writer to adapt his work. As I am in the last 50 pages of the book, I am excited to follow this movie adaptation and see where it goes. here is the link to the article on the movie from 2005.

I support Newman. Theres still a chance. Afterall he's alredy retired once and it didnt work.

I desperately want Newman to do it. There really was nothing better than watching the perform in The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They are probably the best duo ever in acting. I doubt it will happen but what a way it will be for Newman to end his career with his best friend on one side and a meaningful plot and message on the other.

I would love to see Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in this togther... is it too much to hope that would happen? Who ever gets the role, i think will always be compared to 'what if Newman did this' and 'how great would it have been.."
Newman is extremely ill with cancer. He couldn't make a film of any sort now, much less this one which would require stamina.
I just can't see Redford in this role. He's much older than Bryson [ he was in his 40's when he took his walk] and is hardly known for being droll or having a sense of humor, which the role requires.
