When you are clueless..don't advertise it here.

1. First read the book before you comment about this movie.
2. If you think 70yr olds should be doing the Appalachians in wheelchairs you won't make it to 60.
3. Mr. Redford's 'All Is Lost' from last year was a challenging physical movie which he finished on time. Rumor is he that hes still alive.
4. This movie has been in the works 9 years since Bryson sold the rights to Redford. Redford purchased this with only 1 other actor in mind- Paul Newman.
5. Redford will admit he grossly fu*ked up what could have been a classic trifeta with Newman going He waited and waited till his co- star died.
8. Actress Julia Roberts offered/INSISTED to be in a movie with Newman and Redford. She cared not about salary.
7. In the same year as Newman, Sidney Pollack died. He could have been at the helm if he were still friends with Redford= but he was not. And George Roy Hill was "unavailableā€

I'm not clueless, drbond, and I have read the book multiple times.

But I maintain that two guys in their mid-40s trying a thru hike, one with a young family at home, is simply a different story than two guys in their 70s doing the same thing. It's not about physical fitness or the aging process, it's about where they are in their lives. Two guys in their 40s are motivated partly by a desire to recapture the youth that is starting to slip away, and their adventure is tempered by the fact that they are needed as husband, father and provider (or at least Bryson was). Two guys in their 70s are hiking the trail without those responsibilities hanging over them, as a last gasp of adventure, like retirees who tour the world.

Doing this movie with Redford and Nolte in their 70s makes it a different story. It could still be a good story, and one worth telling, but it's not the story Bryson wrote.

Its not Redford's fault that Newman died. He was healthy and then went rather suddenly.

When you buy a book option, you still have to raise finance and get a screenplay together.

Its that man again!!

Man, Newman + Redford + Roberts, directed by Sydney Pollack?

That would have been an amazing thing. Sadly, time was not on their side.

~ That's much too vulgar a display of power, Karras.
