I thought that Redford would be too old back when I first heard

... that he was interested in filming and starring in this property. Then it fell off my radar. I was surprised to hear that he'd finally made it.

That said, I'm excited.

Everybody has their own take away from the book, and if the ages of the characters are crucial to some readers' experience and enjoyment of the story, then those readers may be disappointed, may find the final product to have been ruined. That is a valid concern and I agree that it sucks.

Speaking for myself - and maybe this is just because I'm getting older, too, and what I take away from the book changes with every decade - I find that the best parts of the book - the most compelling insights and the most hilarious moments - have little to do with age and everything to do with the dynamic between the two men and the relationship each man has with himself.

If Bryson is content that Redford and Nolte can interpret and translate his characters and their most excellent adventure with authenticity and warmth, then I'm going to have faith in his judgement.

Really looking forward to this.
