Surprising Book to be made into a movie!

I adore everything Bill Bryson has written, but I don't know why A Walk In The Woods is being made into a movie. It's an amusing, informative read, but unless they make up some kind of back story or plot and throw in some made up things (like chased by bears, stumble across some criminals on the lam) ....All I can think is two geezers thought it would be fun. People love Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, after all. But this book just doesn't seem to be based on a movie worthy story.

Well the book does have a lot of amusing anecdotes involving the Forest Service, serial killers, and Centralia PA. I always pictured they could do cut-away moments of these segments with Bryson narrating, almost documentary-like.

~ That's much too vulgar a display of power, Karras.

My heart leaped when I heard about this film. Within minutes I watched the trailer and my heart sank. Sheesh these were the very best scenes that they put together for a best foot forward. It looks sappy and slapstick. I sure hope that they don't ruin it further by having filmed in in California. I really visualized Bryson doing a voice over narrative. What a disappointment. This will be on Netflix in six months. Save your money on this block of cheese folks. I hope that I am wrong.

I am a massive Bryson fan and am looking forward to seeing this film, even if is a stinker it won't alter my opinion of Bill and his works. The one glaring thing about this is the age thing, when Bryson wrote 'A walk in the woods' he was in in his mid forties, Robert Redford is nearly 80.

I loved the book.

I like the idea of a movie being made from it.

I fear they may screw it up.

(I HOPE they don't!)
