Nolte was great, but I'm worried it might be his last film

As soon as you heard his voice on the phone in the beginning I burst out laughing - that deep trademark growl - and his interaction with Redford was hilarious, but he looks in the worst shape ever. Beet-red face like an alkie or someone on the verge of a stroke, overweight, barely enunciating. I'm glad he made this movie because I'm almost positive he'll go before Redford does.

He's got quite a few upcoming projects listed here. I agree he looked pretty bad. I didn't think there was any way Bryson's wife would have felt better about her husband hiking with him than hiking alone. But I'll wait to see him in something where he wasn't playing a recovering alcoholic in bad shape before I judge his health. They were apparently able to get insurance for the movie, so perhaps he doesn't look that bad in real life, and it's just great acting.

Yeah, he put on all that weight and got high blood pressure just for the role. Good one.

I saw him in a recent interview...AFTER making the film. He was quite a bit thinner, clean shaven and I was surprised at how much better he looks.
Much better, in fact.
