TOO OLD! Recast this Movie!

Robert Redford (79) and Nick Nolte (74)? Seriously?
These guys are WAY too old for these roles.

Recast this Movie!

Donal Logue as Bill Bryson and John C. Reilly as Stephen Katz.

Too late.

You're missing the point of the film entirely. It was about older characters looking for one last adventure and reflecting on existence as death comes closer in their lives. Logue and Reilly would've just turned it into another pointless buddy picture (and I enjoyed seeing veteran actors play off each other. It's like taking a class in longevity in acting).

This movie would have been so much better if they cast Justin Bieber and Zac Efron.

Well, to be fair to the OP, Bill Brysan & his friend (Stephen Katz was a pseudonym) were in their 40's when they trekked the AT, not in their 70's. That being said, Redford & Nolte were the best thing about this fairly lightweight film.

Missing the point of the film ENTIRELY? Hmm, that may have been the point of the movie, but it wasn't the point of the book upon which it was based. Bill Bryson is 63 NOW, and the book was published in 1998, meaning he was likely around 45 when he did the hike. Having read the book, it sounds like he was more overweight than Robert Redford is. He mentioned losing weight on the hike. But he was certainly nowhere near as heavy as Nick Nolte.

When I read the book, I pictured someone who looked like Nick Offerman. Logistically, it would usually be hard for someone that age to take a hike like that, but since Bryson was a writer (and I don't believe for a minute he didn't intend to write a book about it), he could.

Redford is just tiresome. Badly miscast, due to his massive ego.

Redford looked a lot fitter than Nolte!
