Funny?

Is the movie funny? I want to go see a comedy and this seemed like a good option.

reply

Yes. It's funny.

No, it's not alfl that funny. Humorous at times, yes.

reply

It's extremely funny just like the book on which it's based on. We haven't laughed that much in quite a while :)!

reply

There were a few laughs, but it's not really a comedy. The book, on the other hand, is hilarious. Read it instead of seeing the movie.

reply

Maybe it's not classified as a comedy, but there were still more laughs than some of the comedies I've seen recently (courtesy of Kristen Schall). I saw this with my dad, and he said the book was a lot funnier. Maybe it would have been funnier if they cast comedians in the lead roles, like Mel Brooks and Rob Reiner.

Now THAT would have been a great movie!

I concur! As I watched the film, I thought that Bryson's written message had been 'lost in translation' to film. Redford played Bryson as a likable, but low-key fellow. I would have liked to see the role played with greater humorous delivery. I remain a fan of Bryson's writing and this film was a poor portrayal of his talent.

reply

Yes, Nolte hilarious.

It's not slapstick or laugh a minute, but it's comedy in that it isn't too serious and has funny bits.

Not that funny. Some people will laugh at anything.

I didn't find it funny. The tone is somewhat Reader's Digest. I like Bill Bryson, but didn't read this particular book, and am not likely to read it after seeing this film.
