What was the note Arthur gave Amy in the first episode?

I'm pretty sure it's the first episode, anyway. Maybe the second. But at some point, Arthur goes to the gate of the Marshalsea and gives John a note saying, "No, would please just give this note to Miss Dorrit?" or something like that. I'm pretty sure it was before John proposed. I don't remember the contents of that note ever being revealed in the movie. If they weren't, what was the point of that scene?

Sorry if I'm being unclear! Next time I watch it I'll edit this and try to make it more specific.

The note that Arthur gives for delivery to Amy comes from Flora Finching, who is offering to give Amy a position of seamstressing for her (Flora's ulterior motive is to keep an eye on Amy, who she considers a rival for Arthur's affections.) The letter is delivered after John has proposed to Amy and before Arthur reveals to Amy that his affections are engaged by Pet Meagles.
