I've seen portions of the 1988 movie on the Internet and also read the novel. Curiously, neither of the three conclude the story in the same manner. The novel has a somewhat of a "Hollywood" type of ending regarding Arthur. The 1988 movie left out Rigaud, Miss Wade, and Tattycoram. The ending of the 1988 movie was rather abrupt. Mrs. Clennam gives Amy her share of the Gilbert Clennam will money and she uses that to bail out Arthur. Only Flintwinch dies at the end of the movie (the house appears to only partially collapse on him). Amy goes straight to the jail and then they get married. Nothing is mentioned about the other characters in the film after the house collapse. The way the three storylines treated Arthur at the end varies and if you expect to see a similar ending with regards to him, you will be disappointed.
