Who was he and what was his part in Little Dorrit? I didn't see the end, but I never could understand if he was a good guy or bad guy.. . . .sorry, it just wasn't clear to me.

That was Pancks, the rent collector for Mr. Casby. At the beginning, he appears to be a bad guy, but he a real softie after all.

One of my favorite scenes from the book was when Pancks goes to apologize to Arthur about getting him mixed up with Merdle. Pancks is so upset he tears out a wad of hair, looks at it, and then shoves it in his pocket.
