Circumlocution Office

I wonder how many people saw the humour/irony in the Circumlocution office - the stairs, Arthur going around in circles, employees who didn't do anything but were "very busy". The icing on the cake - when Sparkler told John he could get him a job that paid a little and he didn't have to do anything.

Gotta love Dickens.

Dickens was using the office example to criticize how the British Government was mishandling their military operations during the Crimean War when Little Dorrit was published. Their strict procedures that had to be followed and all of the "red tape" resulted in lack of supplies for the soldiers in southern Russia.

I thought the Office of Circumlocution was a satiric delight and the gents who managed it - the Tite Barnacles, Jr. and Sr. Dickens was genius at creating characters with names to suit perfectly.

I loved this part of the movie. The best (or worst) thing is that the government hasn't changed at all--except that now the papers are in computers.
