Sorry for the last response, but the Dorrit fortune is discovered by the work of Pancks who goes about examining documents and records of the family tree. Pancks provides his findings to Arthur who then informs the Dorrits. What he discovers include a hidden legacy that is owed to William Dorrit (from a deceased relative). It provides the money to pay off his debts. After serving his sentence in debtor prison, his "get out of jail ticket" changes his attitude of what he feels that his family deserves in society. He felt "privileged" in prison and continues that attitude outside of the prison. Since he is rich now, he tries to act like a snob and high class person. Sometimes people who win the lottery become different type of people after their new found wealth.
