Disgusting Ending *spoiler*

I liked the firts part of the movie, its tristess and absurdness. Nice soundtrack too..

But from the moment the dog has been thrown from the bridge I became so angry.
They did NOTHING to relieve the pain from this poor soul!!
They threw the dog in the back of the car and went for Heroine!!
Of course the junk did not return and after a long time the poor dog is fanally dead.
It's disgusting!!!!!

You're right... they should have bought some pain killers and maybe made some splints to help the dog! Maybe they could have sewn in a little sweater to keep it warm too! and little booties!

*SPOILERS*

They are poor and trying to kill it before the pain is too bad. The guy was hoping the junkie was clean because of he's hoping to save a Junkie to make up for the brother he lost. It was a fairly realistic, though depressing ending....

Great movie.

To your first comment:
Why so sarcastic?

And for this:
"They are poor and trying to kill it before the pain is too bad. The guy was hoping the junkie was clean because of he's hoping to save a Junkie to make up for the brother he lost."

They did NOTHING! And the guy was a good guy, he even suggested to go and see a vet. So why didnt he? It's just not plausible.

In order to save a junkie you send him to buy drugs, right!
It's not a realistic ending at all.
And besides:
A vet would have euthanised the dog without them having to pay for it.

Of course the dog is some kind of methafore but still...nonsense..

the ending is VERY realistic and plausible! just because your over-exaggerated feel for a dog would have made you act differently, it doesn't mean that this is necessarily the usual case. thousands of animals get killed on the roads each day and no one cares how long they are in pain until they finally die, so why make a big fuss out of that? yeah it's not nice, but so what? in the end it's just a movie. the dog was used as a device to progress to the ending and to make that spiral of life that they portrayed a downward one. the way they did it was pretty clever, but apparently your blind animal love gets in the way of a well written *fictional* story...

completely agree with smallbob, i think the ending is splendid. In fact, it is the best possible and most realistic ending. Let's review what endings we would have if it would have not been made by Bouli, but by:
- Hollywood:
Elie returns with drugs for the dog, but amazingly the dog has cured. Elie and Yvan win the lottery, find hot chicks and have a great life afterwards.
- Bollywood:
Elie returns with a prostitute that starts to sing about life, Yvan joins the fun, before we know it we have a whole gang of prostitutes and heroin addicts dancing on the parking lot in Charleroi

Ofcourse i'm exeggerating but i do think that the ending is beautifully sad and realistic, as it is unlikely that Elie will give up his addiction because of 2/3 days spent with Yvan. On the other hand it's also not an extremely dramatic ending. In one word, it is the most real-to-life ending and therefore I think it is fantastic.

Granted, the dog scene is disgusting for animal lovers, but for me it is not a problem. It is realistic. I mean what would you do in their situation??

Your comment is just incredible. You wasted your money.

Yvan (subconsciously) needs Elie to fails to get rid of the overbearing guild of not being there for his brother, to show to himself that things would have happened that way no matter what. The dog had to die to be buried. He is the only one without a dog, remember: He is the only one who has unfinished business, absence of closure, whatever. Elie brings him closure, and Yvan knows that he is a junkie the second he sees him. Walking on graves is a metaphor for moving on, for burying the past. In that sense Elie and the dog are one.
