Why don't they even discusse... (SPOILER)

....settling with the brother whose wife has left him, and help raise his motherless daughter?

I say that because in the sequence before in Montreal, the Maya Rudolph character seems to idealize, and want, some mind of "blended family" that includes adopted kids, etc. and you see her sitting on the girl's bed and bonding....so you'd think this option would at least OCCUR to them (?)

I was wondering the same thing, it's odd that they've got this whole trip set up to visit potential places to live, but going to Miami to live by his brother wasn't on the agenda. It seems especially strange since they considered Phoenix and Montreal where neither of them have any family (not to mention you can't just move to Canada as a U.S. citizen - there are visas to arrange and lots of paperwork).

The whole Miami trip being unscheduled just didn't sit right.

I think Maya Rudolph's character's grief for her parents might have had something to do with it, initially. She seems to want to avoid talking about them with her sister, doesn't want to get married because her parents wouldn't be there, etc. In the beginning, she may not have wanted to consider moving to Florida because she might have thought it would be too painful being so close to where she grew up.
