Podracing?
The racing in this movie seems to have definitely been inspired by podracing from "Star Wars Episode I". At first glance, some of the alien characters also reminded me of "Star Wars" characters.
shareI've only skimmed it off the DVR so far, but my first impression was that somebody realized (correctly) that everything about "Phantom Menace" stank apart from the podracing scenes. More power to 'em, I say!!!

I agree this seems like they ripped off pod racing. Howeever, I do not think pod racing was the best part of Phantom Menice. I thought that the entire pod racing needed to be removed from that movie, along with C3PO, and Jar Jar.
BTW, if you haven't seen it check out Star Wars Robo Chicken. Darth Vader and Jar Jar clip is priceless.
