Is anyone bothered that this is basically an audiobook to start?

What was the director thinking? What were the producers thinking? Wouldn't you want people to like your film and not turn it off? How is it entertaining to watch a black screen for the first fifteen minutes of the film and then sporadically thereafter? How annoying. It completely ruins the viewer's interest to start, at least it did for me.

I think someone like the movie Saw and thought they could make a buck too.

Weren't they just trying to build tension? I've been perplexed by the comments that the "whole thing" takes place in the dark! Not defending the dreck film, but I did see the whole thing, not just the beginning.

Even in the beginning, when the characters are supposedly completely in the dark, the audience is able to see them. I mean unless we're watching different movies. I just watched this on Netflix and there was no extended period of time where the screen was blank.

I agree the beginning was way too dark, I was almost ready to turn it off thinking it might all be like that. Maybe I still should have turned it off, didn't enjoy it very much. Besides that, it wasn't entirely blank though, maybe your TV is a bit dim.

I definitely considered turning this off at the beginning. It was interesting enough, so I'm glad I didn't, but don't view all the black screen as a smart directorial choice.
