Best interpretation of film I've read
Just saw the film and think this guy is on the right track. He posted this response on Rotten Tomatoes to a NYT film critic's review:
May I suggest another take on the movie gigantic?
Suppose we thought of:
Ed Asner = the roaring twenties, 80 years old
Older brothers = 1960 American economy, cold war (gun), back door dealing (or in bed) with Russia, Japan, black market, etc.
Brian = new America economy, is okay with France and the rest of the world despite it type of government, sees and wants relationship with China and its economy since he was 8 years old, Tiananmen sq. related.
Mai = China, China's 2019 economy. It is a baby now but it will be GIGANTIC one day.
John Goodman = Wall Street, lying horizontally with buildings passing by perpendicular, having to rid his body of a tumor, or (old notions of doing business with China and other non Democracies.)
Happy = the conduit of Wall Streets money.
Attacker = Al Qaeda, attacks with no good reason, hates US economy values.
