worst Ed Asner role ever

I just saw this movie a few days ago, & I can't believe I watched the whole thing. It was poorly written, boring, lacked any cohesive plot or character development, and the role of the father, Ed Asner was ridiculous.
What was all that crap about "who will clean your shoes?", "How do I get into your apartment ?" etc.. Was he supposed to be from 1935? Just awful!
