Why do they keep inviting celebs?

It's so annoying. Why are most of the important get togethers etc mostly celebs? (For example the party for his award, and his anniversary extravaganza). Honestly, who the hell are they to be included in all this? It should be for his friends and family, and others in the fashion industry. The celebrities aren't part of the fashion industry, and it's annoying that they get more importance than those who are JUST because they're famous. But honestly, famous among who? Among regular movie goers, so why do they matter so much?

Celebrities are part of the business. They function as muses, customers and friends. A celebrity wearing a beautiful gown to an awards show will help publicize the fashion houses to clients who can pay thousands of dollars to a dress and glamorize the brand so that people who can only save up for smaller items like perfume and accessories will gravitate towards that house. Valentino had a long working relationship with some of these actresses. I see no reason why they shouldn't come and support the work of someone they've known for so long.

Also, it was shown that tons of his friends and non-famous people did attend his award. The anniversary extravaganza was a huge event (at one point they mentioned 200, 000 guests and 600 VIP guests) and there were plenty of non-celebrities in attendance. In fact, Valentino was more emotional when talking with the seamstresses then with anyone else.
