Kirsten Dunst deserved some sort of acting recognition for this

Barely anyone saw this movie and it's some of her best (if not best) work to date. She projected everything she was feeling subtly but exceptionally well, and that entire abortion scene was totally Oscar material— and, well, nothing. It was hardly released in US theaters and went straight to on-demand while it was still in its limited release. Seriously, what the hell? It's gotta be disappointing for her, this was some of the best acting I've seen from her, and one of the best performances of the year.

I could not agree more. Her performance was exceptional and completely award worthy. It's a shame that the film wasn't better.

reply

Many critics praised her performance and the movie as well.So it was a great chance for her.

reply

I agree. She was amazing in this film. I never considered her a great actress before this film, but she proved me wrong with this acting. She went toe to toe with the great Mr. Ryan Gosling and maybe acting along side him made her do a better job. She deserves recognition for this!

totally agreed. kirsten was amazing in this film, and it's a shame it didn't get a wider release.

reply

Her acting was spot on. She could have over done it but she played it just right.

Totally agree; Kirsten is very underrated. She often chooses deep, multifaceted roles that get overlooked and this is certainly one of them.

reply

Exactly, she has played quite a few complex characters before (Crazy/Beautiful comes to mind). She is a great actress and I was blown away by her performance in this movie. She really does deserve more recognition beyond the spider man films and Bring it On

She is good in this film and fortunately because the Weinstein Brothers helped produce it and Ryan Gosling was in it, it will look good on her resume even though it wasn't released. That's not her fault as an actress.

And besides good acting, she LOOKS really good in it, which is important to directors. She's been gone for a bit so it's nice to see her slowly coming back to work. Michelle Williams is going to be facing some competition for petite blonde roles now.

@ Cablebot3000: ever since she was young, I've noticed she (for the most part) chose roles that other mainstream actresses her age would not go for. Interview with the Vampire, Virgin Suicides, even Strike is sort of obscure (although I really do love that movie - classic when I was growing up). Really underrated.

I agree with you completely. Also, Frank Langella played the villain perfectly and he should have gotten a best supporting role nomination. Ryan did an amazing job as well.

It amazes me that every obscure movie that Woddy Allen puts out can't get enough accolades or award recognition. And a great movie that really needed some recognition didn't get a peep.

Interesting thought.

Just watched this film last night. I though it was excellent and I agree Dunst played the role to perfection.

Just because I'm chained to the fence doesn't mean I can't bark at the car

reply

Ummm, no offense, but Ryan Gosling played the villain and Frank Langella played the evil villain's father.

reply

They both deserved recognition for their acting as well. I just hate that this whole movie didn't get the recognition that it deserved.

It's because of the bad publicity Wainstein company gave to the movie. It's far superior than the extremely overrated Blue Valentine.

reply

I agree and I did not care for Blue Valentine. It was a real downer!

I agree it was some of her best work. The scene where she found the dog's bandana and silently screamed - it was chilling. Well done to her.
