What is he doing during the murder montage? (SPOILERS)

SPOILERS BELOW

During the scene in which Malvern kills Deborah, they cut back to David gradually approaching a curtain with a folded newspaper in his raised hand. I liked the montage but what is David doing in this scene? Is he actually trying to kill a fly or a mosquito? (because that is what it looks like). Is there any significance for this?

Yes he is swatting a fly or some type of small critter. I think it is only significant in that David is killing an insect while Malvern is killing Deborah. Perhaps a bit of dark humor injected by the writer(s).

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.
