Is a convoluted plot an essential part of RE?

I have played every game, read the wikipedia timeline countless times, and still it eludes me. They just seem to routinely riddle the thing with holes and ideas that aren't quite logical.

I dunno, maybe it is a Japanese translation issue, I often have trouble working out apparently bizzare character motives in Japanese films. But RE takes it to a whole new level.

*SPOILERS*
In Degeneration, where does that twist about 'THE TRUTH' come from? Suddenly the outbreak at the airport is less than inconsequential, every city in the US is about to be targetted that night? So what was Leon doing there when presumably he could be somewhere else doing something much more important, and why was the entire stock of vacination there too. And come to think of it how was the vacination blown up on the wrong side of a massive military checkpoint? Why didn't the rescue team evacuate the airport by helicopter from a window or on the roof, why run through the lobby? Why are Japanese cartoon/game little girl scripts soooo terrible (Ghibli the honorable exception).

IT JUST BENDS MY MIND, why after all this time and so many rubbish convoluted messy excuses for storylines can't they just get a few decent writers! It isn't like they can't afford them!

1. Harvardville airport was the first sign of an infection outbreak in the US since 1998.

2. Leon was sent in soon after being debriefed following RE4.

3. The Vaccinations were blown up by Curtis, presumably by bombs hidden on the trucks.

4. The rescue team most likely reached the survivors at a point where it was closer to go out the lobby than alllllll the way back up to the helipad where there was a hallway full of undead.

This script leaves alot to imagination and/or thinking via Resident Evil universe tactics.

leaves a lot to be desired you mean. Do the words Contrived and simplistic mean anything to you?

All the attempts at twists and turns have gotten rather silly in the Resident Evil series. I have absolutely loved these games since the beginning, but in terms of plot, they've gotten more ridiculous as time goes on.

The thing with Resident Evil is that...they're not smart games. They're awesome games, but not smart at all. And so they've tried to shove all these underlying plot points and hidden elements and stuff, and it just makes it look silly. At its core, they're games about blowing away zombies with guns. That's it. It was sorta interesting in the beginning that it was a man-made virus and everything, but...really, they're still just games about blowing heads off. And while the newer games are definitely a blast to play, the move from horror-oriented to more action-oriented hasn't helped the overall story. People will never stop remembering the badly read lines from the very first game, and no amount of trying to put layers on top of that will change how goofy those were.

This is why I'll never understand the people who get real pissed at the movies for sucking. What do the movies have to work with? The plots and characters of the games aren't very good to begin with. It's not like they took something smart and dumbed it down. They took something dumb and translated it to a different avenue. But instead of actually playing and having fun and being involved with the zombie and weird tentacle one-eyed monster killing, you just have to sit back and watch, which is boring.

Silencio...
