Those pink cigarettes...

I'm going crazy here! I wanna know which brand are the pink cigarettes Carey Mulligan smokes at one point in the movie!! I think she says it, but I didn't catch it.
Those are the same cigarettes that Juliane Moore smokes in 'A Single Man'.

Anyone??

I can't figure out if they're made anymore. But they're Nat Sherman's Fantasia cigarettes.

Bon chance!

Looks like they are still produced, but I'm not sure where they can be purchased.

Thank you!
I rewatched the movie last night. Actually Carey Mulligan smokes Sobranie's Cocktail, but Nat Sherman's cigarettes are very similar (estetically speaking).
I would like to try both brands.
I wonder if I can find them in Milan...

She said they were from France but were called Russian 'something'. Just wondering if they were the same cigarettes Jean-Paul Belmondo smokes in Breathless or Eva Green in The Dreamers. Anyone know?
I also think that Tarantino's fictional "Red Apples" cigarettes from Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 were probably based on them.

Russian Sobranie's. More specifically the Sobranie's coloured kind are called 'Cocktail'.

Eva Green also smokes them in The Dreamers, yes. They also make black and gold cigarettes I once bought them in Czechia. They look very chique, but don't taste very good.

They are widely available at tobacconists in London

But they are very expensive, probably over £10 a box.

This may not be much use to you

"One GOOD one."

Sobranie Cocktail

It's a bloody euphonium!

Russian Sobranies. I don't think you can get them commonly in the UK anymore, perhpas in specialist tobacconists. They're available in Europe though, Czech Republic and Spain definitely.

My mother used to smoke them "at the disco" back in the day.

You're god damn right I did!

reply

theyre called sobranie cocktails. i live in twickenham and you can get them from the tobacconist there for about 9 pounds.

sobranie russians are black with a gold filter, the gold foil means your lipstick wont smudge, i love them

reply

They are (or were) Sobranie Black Russian. They came in a box rolled with different pastel coloured papers and gold tips ! You could also buy a box of all black ones with gold tips - Very "in" at the start of the 60's - so I had to smoke them at school to show off - that's before i found out that I was alergic to smoking !!

reply

isn't everyone technically allergic to smoking?

but Sobranies are sold in Selfridges for around £8. You can buy them abroad - particularly Spain and France for 3 euros however (there are 20 in a packet).

There are chocolate flavored cigarettes called Black Devil (they're Dutch I think) and they come in a grey package. The vanilla flavored have a black package.

I'm not sure, but I think my girlfriend once told me she smoked pink black devil's in London, I can't remember what flavor they were but she says it was really bad. She only got them because they were pink.

Ahh - now there´s a dilemma - I am allergic to smoke but addicted to chocolate and definitely appreciate wine - its a conspiracy....

By definition, an allergen must contain protein. The immune system's reaction to the protein is an allergic reaction. Smoke doesn't contain proteins and therefore it is not an allergen. People cannot be allergic to smoke. Perhaps you're referring to being sensitive to smoke, which is perhaps the result of a respiratory condition such as asthma.

Hi,

I know those cigarettes. The coloured ones in the movie are Sobranie Cocktails from London(They are only of different pastel colours but no variation in taste), and are the same as the Sobranie Black and Gold. They are of a normal cigarette height and diameter, a very smooth light flavour.

The Nat Sherman's (New York) Black and Gold as stated by another reply, taste completely different to Sobranie's: heavier taste, more like a cross between a cigar and a cigarette as they take much much longer to smoke. They are thinner and longer than normal cigarette size.
