The Ending

That was a depressing ending. Neither girl seemed very happy. It looked like they both made the wrong decision to stay together.

I disagree completely, to me it was a happy ending. And a realistic one. They still had issues that needed working out and everything wasn't perfect, but they were getting there.

I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much it's killing me.

I felt the same way, the blond girl wanted passion and someone more sincere, in my opinion, she will never be truly gay and when a guy comes along to give her what she is looking for she will probably go back to men. The thing she has is something new and more of escapism. I just didn't get the feeling she was into women in general but into the brunette, the brunette was right that she will return to men at some point, but chose to look the other way and that is why she will not give her all at least for now that was what the ending meant in my interpretation where they both no this may not be deep enough to hold us together. I don't think they will last long considering how she dumped the fiance whom she loved. You can sometimes tell just what type of person some one is by the way they treat someone they say there in love with. there are many exceptions, but in general you don't hurt them in this manner. She should have ended it with him before she started up with someone else. In most cases it boils down to betrayal to the other mate and that is a more cruel way of doing it, and a better way of looking at what you are getting.

VERY TRUE _ A VOICE OF REASON. I totally agree except for this: I've watched the ending several times and I still don't think is totally clear that she dumped Greg, although I think he should leave because she cheated on him. Anyway I think Molly's karma balance is in the *beep*

I forgot to mention that I too was not so sure she and Greg were through. In fact the more I had thought about it the more I knew the two gals would be conflicted by him. The betrayal and the half hearted way she went about all of it says a lot.

Wrong, it was clear Molly and Greg had finished. The scene where they look at each other through the car window told you that. And they didn't feel guilty over Greg enough to ruin their relationship. You're projecting, and have misintepreted the ending. Listen to the commentary.

I don't feel it's "wrong" at all and I did understand the movie. I thought I was on your ignore button. ONCE AGAIN IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY COMMENTARY WHY DO YOU LIKE READING AND RESPONDING TO ME.

I think a main theme of this film was that love is quite blurry around the edges, and different on an individual level. Molly wants to have a family and fit into the society she was accustomed to, but knows that Bridget is the best thing to ever happen to her... "so....." what other choice does she have but to follow her heart in the present time?

It seems like Bridget knows that Molly may leave her for a satisfactory man and that makes her uneasy, but I think it's also pretty likely that she could find a woman who is less uptight and leave Molly. But for now, they love each other, and "for now" is all that matters.

That wasn't the message. The director says on the commentary it's a will-they-won't-they ending that is left for the viewer to decide. The movie isn't sending any message at all.

If you decide they did end up together then that is where they would stay. Therefore it is a sort of happy ending, as they didn't end apart. It all pointed towards them both having changed.

I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much it's killing me.

My interpretation is: the relationship between the two women was good for them both in different ways. For the blond it showed her there could be more than the douche she was with before. for the brunette it was that there can be more meaning. So even if the relationship doesn't last, it was worth it for both of them to grow.

reply

I believe it will last because both had finally found someone they could really feel with. Be free with. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would be worthwhile.

I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much it's killing me.

I agree that Molly and Greg were done, and honestly how anyone could expect those two to rekindle is beyond me. Once Molly went to Bridget at the end, I feel there was no going back for Molly and Greg. Now not saying Molly wouldn't later find another man, but clearly her and Greg did not work out.

Molly and Bridget did seem unsure at the end but I feel it was an artistic choice similar to the ending of The Graduate. Molly finally allowed herself to follow her heart and her heart wanted Bridget. She felt they clicked. The main thing truly holding them back (aside from Greg) was what Molly wanted for her future. Considering she was a little older, she had a clear cut idea of what her future would be. Bridget complicates everything tenfold. However, at the end she felt she was worth it. Bridget was never one for commitment or a steady relationship but was opening up to Molly and said she was trying at the end. I feel both want a relationship to work. I don't know if they will or not but I wouldn't write the possibility off. Personally I don't find the ending depressing. It is just like real life. Heck people get married and are unsure but then are happy for years and years. So just looking unsure doesn't mean that it was a mistake.

agreed, i mean she mentioned that she couldn't go on without Bridget & never being able to kiss her again & this & that, she mentioned that she really wanted to have a family though, which to me, she may have been *hint hinting* at Bridget if they were to make it but there was no question in my mind at all about her going back to Greg, basically she told him she loved him, he's in her heart but she's not in love with him
